Abstract Note
Acromegalic osteopathy is an emerging complication of acromegaly, characterized by high bone turnover, profound deterioration in trabecular and cortical bone microstructure, all of which leading to increased risk of vertebral fractures (VFs). The abnormalities of bone quality in acromegaly are not captured by DXA measurement of bone mineral density (BMD), since VFs may occur even in patients with normal or minimally decreased BMD. The purpose of this article is to provide an update on clinical and therapeutic aspects concerning acromegalic osteopathy.
